About Surrey Hospitals Foundation:

Surrey Hospitals Foundation (SHF) works to improve the quality of healthcare in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley area. It grants money to three health centres in the community: Surrey Memorial Hospital, Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre, and Czorny Alzheimer Centre. The Surrey Memorial Hospital has Canada’s busiest ER and a pediatric emergency department that serves the 41% of BC’s children. The Jim Pattison Centre provides surgery, diagnostic, and specialized health services to over 500,000 patients each year. The Czorny Alzheimer Centre is a home for 72 dementia patients.

In F2024, SHF granted $3.9m. With its grants, Surrey Hospitals Foundation funds Capital Equipment and Projects, Research and Education, and Patient Comfort Items.

Capital Equipment and Projects accounted for 69% of grants in F2024. The charity did not provide the total amount of equipment and projects it funded in F2024. SHF funded an integrated operating room system technology, mobile ultrasounds, advanced surgical tables, laser blue light laryngology, hydraulic chairs, optiflow, pediatric nasal therapy, radiographic unit, ablation systems for cardiac care, patient ceiling lifts, and the opening of Czorny Alzheimer Centre’s bakery.

Patient Comfort Items accounted for 14% of grants in F2024. SHF funds projects and items to improve patient quality of life. The charity did not quantify any of its activities in this program.

Research and Education accounted for 7% of grants in F2024. SHF helps advance projects in the health field and train doctors with new techniques. Since 2022, over 40 pediatric nurses at Surrey Memorial Hospital received the BMO Educational Nursing Grant.
