Founded in 1984, Moisson Montréal (MML) collects, sorts, stores, and distributes food to community agencies across Montreal. It is the largest food bank of its kind in Canada. Moisson Montréal is a member of Food Banks Canada and Food Banks of Quebec. In its 2024 Hunger Count, Moisson Montréal reports that even though the Island of Montreal comprises 24% of the Quebec population, it has 43% of the province’s food assistance recipients. In fiscal 2025 (year ended March), Moisson Montréal spent $10.5m on its Food Distribution program and distributed $186.8m worth of food.
Food Distribution: In F2025, MML distributed 23.7m kg of food to 292 agencies. This included 8.2 million kg of fruits and vegetables. The charity reports distributing 23% more food (nearly 4.5m kg) than in F2024. In F2025, Moisson Montréal sorted and processed 276,700 bags of frozen vegetables, 116,203 crates for assorted canned foods, and 20,167 coolers of meat. In 2013, Moisson Montréal initiated the Food Recovery in Supermarkets Program to collect products from grocery stores that can no longer be sold but are still fit for consumption in order to reduce food waste. In F2025, MML recovered 1.5m kg of food from 134 stores.
