OVERVIEW
About Shriners Hospitals for Children:
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a two-star charity. It is not financially transparent and has a below-average results reporting grade of C+. For every dollar donated to the charity, 82 cents are available to go to the cause, which is within Ci's reasonable range.
Founded in 1967, Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) raises money for Shriners Hospitals for Children - Canada (SHC-Canada). SHC-Canada is a children's healthcare centre in Montreal, Quebec. Shriners International is a global fraternity based on Masonic principles that supports 25 Shriners Hospitals across North America. Regardless of a family’s ability to pay, its hospitals treat children with nerve, muscular, and connective tissue disorders.
SHC distributed $19.6m to SHC-Canada in 2023. However, SHC-Canada paid $9.0m to SHC for rent. Thus, the net funds distributed to SHC-Canada were $10.5m in 2023. SHC does not provide a program spending breakdown. The most recent financial statements available at the time of this update were from 2023.
The charity does not have an annual report specifically for its Canadian branch. It did post a 2024 annual report for all its Shriners Hospitals together on its website. In 2024, it performed 217,615 clinical procedures, 24,492 surgeries, and 446,799 rehabilitation procedures. It also delivered 55,590 orthotic devices and 3,841 prosthetic devices. The charity reports it served nearly 147,000 patients in 2024.
