OVERVIEW
About University Hospitals Kingston Foundation:
University Hospitals Kingston Foundation is a 3-star charity with a below average results reporting grade of B-. For every dollar donated, 78 cents are available to go towards the cause. Its reserve funds can cover seven years and ten months of annual program costs.
Founded in 2005, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) raises funds for Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) and Providence Care Centre (PCC). Kingston Health Sciences Centre is made up of Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital. In fiscal 2024 (year ended March), University Hospitals Kingston Foundation granted $6.5m to KHSC and $8.6m to PCC. These funds went towards infrastructure purchases, patient care, and research at both facilities, however UHKF did not provide a spending breakdown for these funds.
Infrastructure purchases: University Hospitals Kingston Foundation aims to transform healthcare at KHSC and PCC through the purchase of up-to-date equipment and infrastructure. In F2023 (most recent annual report at the time of this profile), UHKF purchased more than 100 pieces of equipment including one new CT scanner, two plasma thawing systems, and 13 next-generation ventilators.
Patient Care: Kingston General Hospital reports having over 60,000 emergency department visits and more than 180,000 outpatients each year. Providence Care reports having over 1,200 inpatients and 25,000 outpatients.
Research: UHKF invests money in research to learn about illnesses and find new treatments and innovative ways to improve the quality of healthcare at its hospitals.

Results and Impact
In F2023, UHKF purchased two new plasma thawing systems. In massive bleeding emergencies, every one-minute delay of getting blood is associated with a 5% increase in death rate. The charity reports that these new machines have saved around 15 minutes in getting blood to patients.
In F2022, Kingston Health Science Centre’s surgical program became the first one in Canada to adopt new cardiac mapping technology. Traditional mapping systems were more time consuming than the new system which can map about one million points in the heart. This is helpful for finding and treating faulty heart tissue and seeing what is causing heart rhythms with more accuracy and efficiency than the previous system.
While Ci highlights these results, they may not be a complete representation of University Hospitals Kingston Foundation’s results and impact. This charity is not yet rated on impact (n/r).

Administrative costs are 9% of revenues (less investment income) and fundraising costs are 13% of donations. For every dollar donated, 78 cents are available to go towards the cause.
