Finances
Kennedy House is not financially transparent. Its audited financial statements are not publicly available for donors. Ci attempted to retrieve its latest audited statements after contacting the charity but received no reply at the time of this profile update. Accordingly, Ci retrieved its F2024 statements from the CRA.
The charity’s audited financial statements do not adequately separate expenses into program, administrative, and fundraising activities (line-item costing). This is not a best practice.
Kennedy House incorrectly filed its T3010 filings with the CRA as it did not report the amount it spent on fundraising. This is despite the charity clearly running fundraising events such as Coldest Night Of The Year Fundraiser (found on page 11 of its F2024 annual report).
In F2024, Kennedy House received $3.2m in donations (31% of total revenue) and $6.5m of government funding (64% of revenue). Administrative costs are 18% of total revenue excluding investment income and fundraising costs are unknown (reported as 0%). Its 18% overhead means that for every dollar donated, 82 cents are available to go to the cause.
The charity spent $8.0m on its programs in F2024 – a 2% increase from $7.8m spent in F2023. Kennedy House now provides therapy dogs and art therapy at its shelter and is planning an expansion of the Kennedy House Youth Centre.
At the end of F2024, Kennedy House had $6.7m in reserve funds (cash and investments). Its reserves can cover 84% or just over 10 months of its annual program spending.

Note: 1. LINE-ITEM COSTING: Although Kennedy House’s audited financial statements follow line-item costing, Ci did not use its T3010 filings when estimating expense categories because of material differences between total expenses reported on its audited statements and T3010 filings. Ci estimated program and administrative expenses based on line items reported in its audited statements. 2. Comments added by the Charity:
Kennedy House Youth Services recently changed its official name to Kennedy House, a name reflective of our growth and reach. When we opened our doors in 1971, we started as an agency in place to support children and youth aged 12-18. Today, we provide support for children & youth up to age 24 through not only program but also through the cultivation of lasting relationships that exist even after youth age out of care.
Our mission statement remains the same: to work with youth to enable them to grow as individuals to contribute as members of the community through residential and community based programs, customized support and trusting relationships.
