OVERVIEW
About Breakfast Club of Canada:
Breakfast Club of Canada is a financially transparent 4-star charity. It has an above average results reporting grade and its overhead costs are outside Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. Ci has given this charity an Average rating for demonstrated impact.
Founded in 1994, Breakfast Club of Canada / Club des petits déjeuner (BCOC) runs school breakfast programs. It operates in every province and territory in Canada. BCOC states that more than 800,000 students do not have access to a nutritious breakfast at school. It also states that food insecurity affects one in four children in Canada.
BCOC grants money to schools and other organizations to run breakfast programs. The charity granted $12.3m in its fiscal year ending June (F2024). The organizations that received the largest grants were Cantine Pour Tous ($878k), Toronto Foundation for Student Success ($695k), and Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada - Ontario Branch ($259k).
Breakfast Club of Canada supported 3,824 school nutrition programs in F2024. Of those, 376 were in Indigenous communities. It reached 655,638 children through these programs, of which 51,930 live in Indigenous communities.

Results and Impact
Breakfast Club of Canada surveyed 860 schools that it supported in F2024. BCOC states that the results from the survey include:
- 99% of schools reported students were less hungry.
- 96% of schools reported a greater sense of community.
- 96% of schools reported a safer and more inclusive environment.
- Almost 95% of schools saw improvements in students’ learning abilities.
BCOC also advocates to help students get access to healthy food. In April 2024, the Canadian Government announced an investment of $1 billion to establish the National School Food Program. The charity states its collaboration with the government helped make this investment happen.
While Ci highlights these key results, they may not completely represent Breakfast Club of Canada's results and impact.
Charity Intelligence has given BCOC an Average impact rating based on demonstrated impact per dollar spent.

Finances
Breakfast Club of Canada’s audited financial statements follow line-item costing, which is not a best practice. This means Ci referred to its T3010 filings to report program, administrative, and fundraising costs.
In F2024 BCOC received $21.1m in donations. It also received $13.6m in government funding. Government funding is 32% of total revenue.
Administrative costs are 7% of revenues (excluding investment income). Fundraising costs are 32% of donations. This results in total overhead spending of 39%. For every dollar donated, 61 cents are available to go to the cause. This falls outside Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending.
BCOC spent $27.2m on its programs and grants in F2024 excluding donated goods used, which is 71% of its revenue excluding donated goods. In F2024 it had a surplus of $1.3m.
Breakfast Club of Canada has $27.0m in reserve funds (cash and investments). The reserves can cover 99%, or one year of program costs.
In addition to reported salary information, BCOC spent $1.2m on professional and consulting fees in F2024 ($890k in F2023). Compensation figures for staff do not include these consulting fees.
This charity report is an update that has been sent for review to Breakfast Club of Canada. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.

Note: Deferred adjustment: BCOC uses deferred accounting. To show donors information on a consistent basis, Ci adjusted for these deferred revenues. This affected revenue by $2.3m in F2024, ($9.6m) in F2023, and ($2.5m) in F2022. Donated services: BCOC reports donated services. To report consistently across charities, Ci removed this amount. This affected revenues by ($189k) in F2024, ($104k) in F2023, and ($71k) in F2022. Deferred capital contributions: Ci adjusted for deferred capital contributions. This affected revenues by ($4k) in F2024, $67k in F2023, and ($29k) in F2022. T3010: As BCOC does not follow activity-based costing, Ci used the charity’s T3010 filing to report administrative and fundraising costs.
